5 Ways To Level Up Your Massage Treatment Room Today
because a good session is about more than just the hands-on time.
Welcome back to another Monday with the Mavens. We created the Massage Mavens blog to connect with and educate self-employed massage therapists working to grow as business owners.
It can be lonely working for yourself – and we’re here to remind you that while you’re in business for yourself, you don’t have to be in business by yourself.
While we cater our content to independent MTs, all massage therapists are welcome here; whether you run your own independent massage therapy studio, you contract in a clinic, work in spa, or you are still in school.
5 Ways To Level Up Your Treatment Room
No, accessories and amenities should not be the main selling point at your massage therapy studio. Your fantastic massage should be, of course!
But also no, accessories and amenities do not hurt.
Clients love a good massage; but they also love a great experience in a comfortable space with the little touches that make them feel like they’re the most important person in the room. (Which they are).
Here are 5 easy ways to level up your massage therapy treatment room today.
1. Table warmer or Bio Mat
Warm and cozy goes a long way to both soothing a clients nervous system and helping them feel pampered.
2. Matching, fitted-to-table sheets.
Matching sheets just help create a visually calm space for your clients - which is known to help calm the CNS - and I’ll take every little hack we can get.
Fitted sheets, however, help create a physically calm space for your clients. No one wants to get all tangled up in sheets that don’t fit the table, and that come with them when they climb aboard or roll over.
3. Personal mirror & small beauty bar
“Massage hair don’t care” is great on a tee shirt, but most people do actually care how they look when they get off the table… especially if they’re headed back to work.
Providing a small mirror for clients to reset themselves after a session goes a long way.
Building a little beauty bar goes even further. Consider putting a small assortment of items like mouth wash, hair spray, dry shampoo, and even hair ties in your restroom or client corner as a small investment that makes a big impact.
4. Hangers
At minimum, your office should have hooks or a coat rack for clients to use. Just because you’re cool with folding up your clothes and piling them on a chair doesn’t mean that they are...especially if they’re in business attire and headed back to work post-session.
Beyond that, if you have clients who wear suits into your massage therapy studio, I encourage you to bring in an actual hanger for them to use. The clients who notice will love the extra touch.
5. Hot towels & hot stones
Aside from being a great tool for therapeutic bodywork, they’re simply an enjoyable experience for clients. There’s no rule saying that massage has to be one-or-the-other: you can offer an incredibly effective services that is also soothing and luxurious.
6. Bonus: Robe
(especially if you offer longer sessions)
Save your clients the hassle and time of having to climb back into (and out of) all of their clothes when nature calls mid-session. A robe shows both that you anticipated your clients’ needs and want to prioritize hands-on-minutes as much as you can.
What other small touches and amenities have you added to your space to take your sessions from Good to Great?
Thanks for stopping by!
As always, we’d love to hear how our content has helped you improve either your studio, your mindset, or your revenue as a self-employed massage therapist.
