Ethics In Your Massage Therapy Studio.
Or do I mean karma?
Welcome back to another Monday with the Mavens. We created the Massage Mavens blog to connect with and educate self-employed massage therapists working to grow as business owners.
It can be lonely working for yourself – and we’re here to remind you that while you’re in business for yourself, you don’t have to be in business by yourself.
While we cater our content to independent MTs, all massage therapists are welcome here; whether you run your own independent massage therapy studio, you contract in a clinic, work in spa, or you are still in school.
Toda we’re talking ethics and karma: because what goes around comes around.
Are you running an ethical massage therapy studio?
Business ethics is defined as “the implementation of policies and procedures regarding topics such as fraud, bribery, discrimination, and more.”
In the massage therapy world, that covers topics like:
Staying within the scope of your practice
Being honest with your prices and how you charge your clients
Serving all clients (and employees) with equal care, respect, and integrity – regardless of skin color, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic standing.
Keeping your behavior professional
Sourcing retail products and massage supplies from similarly ethical businesses
Paying your vendors and employees fairly
Many, Many More things…
It is important to run a business ethically.
DORA and other licensing agencies can absolutely revoke your business and even massage license for being unethical (not to mention saddle you with a hefty fine)
And clients will mimic the intentions you set for your studio. Even if they don’t realize they’re doing it intentionally.
If you find client behavior or accountability is beginning to slip, or that people are disrespecting you or your own policies, then take a look in the proverbial Mirror before you write it off as a “Them” problem.
If you are running a business where you aren’t accountable to commitments, or flout your own policies, or disrespect the people you interact with…well, you’ve set the tone. They’re just mimicking the dynamic that was set out before them, as is human nature.
Thanks for stopping by!
As always, we’d love to hear how our content has helped you improve either your studio, your mindset, or your revenue as a self-employed massage therapist.
